Chronicles of a Midwestern Yardener

Welcome to Midwestern Yardener, where green thumbs meet Midwest living! Join me on this garden adventure filled with spontaneity, laughter, and the joy of cultivating life in our small backyard.

2016 First Container Garden

From humble beginnings in Northern Indiana nearly a decade ago, my gardening journey sprouted in small containers on my apartment patio, proving that even the tiniest spaces can become vibrant green havens. Fast forward to today, my partner and three furry companions(Moose, Mildred, & Zanzibar) purchased our first home just over two years ago allowing for a major upgrade to my green spaces. To say the least… being a homeowner has been a learning experience, but it has come with wonderful opportunities.

I’m a nature enthusiast who finds solace in hiking the trails, discovering hidden treasures while foraging, and savoring the simple pleasures of a good cup of coffee with friends at the local farmers market. As we embark on my third summer in our home, the journey unfolds. My goal is to document the growth of both plants and memories. Year one saw the meticulous planning of garden plots and the introduction of nee perennials. In our second year, a raised bed emerged, and the addition of five blueberry bushes. Who knows what is to come in 2024…

Amidst the flourishing greenery, Midwestern Yardener is also a celebration of friendships—whether they be human or plant. So, whether you’re a seasoned gardener, a hiking enthusiast, a forager at heart, or someone who simply enjoys the warmth of a good cup of coffee shared with friends, I invite you to witness the magic of urban gardening; both the accomplishments and failures.
